Frequently asked questions

Does A/Prof. Bordbar treat children?

Yes. Paediatric maxillofacial surgery, including care for children with cleft and craniofacial conditions, is one of her special interests, and she is a Consultant Surgeon at The Royal Children's Hospital. For children, please confirm any referral requirements when you book, and bring any letters or images from your child's dentist or doctor.

Do I need a referral to see A/Prof. Bordbar?

Our published guidance is that you do not need a referral to book with our specialists. If your dentist, orthodontist or doctor has written a letter or taken scans, please bring them, as they help her understand your history and can avoid repeating imaging.

What does a dual dental and medical qualification mean for patients?

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons in Australia train in both dentistry and medicine. That background covers the teeth and jaws as well as general medical health, anaesthesia and the surgical anatomy of the face, which is relevant when surgery is planned for patients with other medical conditions.

Will I have surgery at Collins Street Specialist Centre or in hospital?

That depends on the procedure. Consultations and planning take place at our practice. Some procedures can be done under local anaesthetic in the rooms, while others, such as corrective jaw surgery, are carried out in hospital. A/Prof. Bordbar will explain where your treatment would take place and why.
